CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR DEVELOPING A ACCOBAMS COMMUNICATION STRATEGY

One of the major objectives of the New ACCOBAMS Strategy 2014-2025 concerns the communication and awareness about the role, mandate and work of ACCOBAMS. The Meeting of the Parties, held in Istanbul in November 2019 (MOP7) adopted Resolution 7.4 which recommends the development, implementing and monitoring of a common communication, information and awareness plan for ACCOBAMS.

In this frame, the Permanent Secretariat launches a Call for Application for Developing a ACCOBAMS Communication Strategy.

Interested Consultants or companies should submit their CV/credentials together with the respective applications to the ACCOBAMS Executive Secretary (ssalvador@accobams.net) and, in copy, to the ACCOBAMS Secretariat (secretariat@accobams.net)  no later than 1 November 2020.

ON-LINE CONFERENCE PRESS ABOUT KILLER WHALES INTERACTIONS WITH BOATS

CEMMAcetaceos is announcing an online press conference to inform about the events that occurred with killer whales interactions with boats on the Spanish and Portuguese coastline since July 2020, as well as the investigations and the measures carried out by the administrations and scientific experts from the Atlantic Orcas Working Group (WG) formed to achieve this investigation.

The event will take place next Tuesday, 22nd of September at 1:00 p.m. (Spanish time) 12:00 p.m. (Portuguese time) through the platform meet.jit.si with access code ORCAPRENSA. It will last approximately 45 minutes and questions may be asked. The event will be recorded so it will be available on-line afterwards.

Researchers and experts from the Atlantic Orcas WG will be present, as well as a representative from the General Directorate of Biodiversity, Forests and Desertification. Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge of Spain.

New Publication in CMS Technical Series

A new publication in the CMS Technical Series (No. 43 Guidelines for the safe and humane handling and release of bycaught small cetaceans from fishing gear, available in English only) is now available.

These guidelines are intended to provide fisheries managers at any level, as well as those who work with fisheries to improve their sustainability, with best practice methodology on the safe and humane handling and release of small cetaceans accidentally bycaught in fishing gear.
