ASI – Success Story by Souad LAMOUTI from the CNRDPA (Algeria)

Every researcher in marine science and nature lovers wish to meet whales and dolphins; the ACCOBAMS SURVEY INITIATIVE (ASI) is a great opportunity to approach these animals to contribute to their knowledge’s conservation and protection. It is probably the first or one of the rare surveys involving almost all Mediterranean countries at the same time for a same scientific objective. The two parts of the survey are important, both the aerial and the boat, as the aerial can cover quickly a big area and in the boat acoustics allows detecting the presence of the animals even if we can’t see them and you feel near the animals sharing a part of their world.

ACCOBAMS Cetaceans Day – 2018 edition

It was in Malaga, Spain, on June 8, 2018, that this 4th edition of the ACCOBAMS Cetaceans Day took place. For this 2018 edition, on World Oceans Day, the children had the chance to visit the Marine Research Conservation International research boat: the Song of the Whale. It is on board the Song of the Whale that part of the ASI is carried out in the Mediterranean.
