Sightings in the Pelagos Sanctuary

Song of the Whale spent approximately two weeks in the Pelagos Sanctuary as part of the ACCOBAMS ASI survey. During this time, we documented five cetacean species along our survey route. The fin whale sighting rate was markedly higher in the Pelagos Sanctuary and the Gulf of Lyons compared to that elsewhere during our survey thus far (the entire western Mediterranean Sea).

ASI – Success story with the Tunisian team on the R/V Song of the Whale

We are three Tunisian researchers, enthusiastic about the marine world, joining the search for cetaceans within the framework of a great project on the Mediterranean scale: the project ACCOBAMS Survey Intiative (ASI). We are as follows Mrs Rimel BENMESSAOUD CHERIF and Mr Mourad CHERIF & Sami KARAA.  We were aboard the R/V SOTW during the period between 19/07 and 12/08/2018.

Stopover in Monaco of the research vessel the Song of the Whale

On Thursday, July 19, 2018, Mrs. Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Government Counselor-Minister of Equipment, Environment and Urbanism visited the ship Song of the Whale, one of the main actors of the “ACCOBAMS Survey Initiative “, in the presence of many personalities. This event was organized by the Permanent Secretariat of ACCOBAMS, the Foundation of Prince Albert II of Monaco and the International Fund for the Protection of Animals (IFAW), during the stopover of the ship in Monaco, headquarters of the ACCOBAMS Agreement.
