Study Visit – WhaleWatching – Beaulieu-sur-mer

As part of the ACCOBAMS project, supported by the MAVA Foundation, which aims to improve the conservation of endangered marine species, such as cetaceans, sea turtles, seabirds and promote responsible fishing practices in the Mediterranean, the ACCOBAMS Secretariat organized a study visit on pescatourism and whale watching in Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur (France) and in Liguria (Italy). This study visit, which runs from April 16 to 20, 2018, aims to discover pescatourism and whale watching activities and to exchange with professional operators in France and Italy.

The Moroccan delegation went to Beaulieu-sur-Mer in the company of Mr. Rémi Bellia, expert mandated by ACCOBAMS, and was received aboard Papeete II by Mr. Patrice Garziglia for a cetacean observation trip. . Mr Patrice Garziglia, fishing guide and professional sailor, welcomes people on board to practice sport fishing or cetacean outings that respect the ACCOBAMS / Pelagos code of conduct as part of the “High Quality Whale Watching®” Certificate. (Mediterranean Sport Fishing).

The delegation was then received by the Mayor of Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Mr. Roger Roux to discuss these issues and share their feelings about the establishment of these activities in Morocco.
