Project description:
The main objectives of this project are:
1) assess the degree of residency of cetaceans in the study area
2) study habitat use and distribution;
3) examine the general cetaceans’ behaviour;
4) estimate the impact on animals of both fishery operations and recreational vessel traffic;
5) examine the social structure of the population and assess the production of calves;
6) estimate the population size;
7) study the acoustic repertoire.
As well as the scientific aim of the research, the project works for the conservation of cetaceans on other levels:
1) promote a series of educational activities willing to make more and more people aware of the reality "dolphins", their problems and the ones of their habitat;
2) deliver any result to the local and international authorities, as well as to the environmentalist organizations;
3) protect and conserve the area.
